Did an astronaut almost float away from the Space Shuttle?!

On NASA Space Shuttle flight STS-41C, NASA astronaut George Nelson, had a close call while wearing NASA’s Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) which was a self contained rocket pack that astronauts could wear on their EVA suit backpacks to perform untethered EVA spacewalks. While trying to retrieve a broken satellite, the astronaut and Mission Control struggled to keep the situation under control and eventually had to abandon their plan for a safer alternative. This was one of the contributing factors to the discontinuation of NASA’s Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU).
